Pairing the Nokia 6103 with OS 10.4.8 (official apple guide)

1. First we need a compatible modem script. If you are using a Nokia 6103, you can use the Nokia iR 6210 _ 8xxx modem script (control + click or right click and save the file), or go to http://www.taniwha.org.uk/ for other Nokia Modem scripts.

2. Drop “Nokia iR 6210 _ 8xxx” in the “Modem Scripts” folder (”Library” > “Modem Scripts”)

3. Go to System Preferences > Bluetooth and select the Devices tab. Click the Set Up New Device button. This opens the Bluetooth Setup Assistant. When prompted, select the option to Access the Internet with your phone’s data connection. Click Next.

4. Leave Username and Password blank. Enter “*99#” (without quotes) in the “GPRS CID String” field. For “Modem Script”, select “Nokia iR 6210 _ 8xxx” (or other script if you have a different phone). Click Continue and finish the setup.

We’re almost Done.
5. Open the “System Preferences” and go to “Network”.

6. Look for the “Location” drop down menu, and choose “New Location”. Name it something like “Nokia Connection” or whatever you want.

7. Under the “Location” menu is the “Show” drop down menu. Select Bluetooth from the “Show” menu. and then click the “PPP” tab. If the “Telephone Number” doesn’t already have “*99#” (without quotes), add it.

8. Click the “PPP Options” button and make sure it is set up like the screen capture below.

9. Click the “TCP/IP” tab and make sure that “Using PPP” is selected in the “Configure IPv4″ drop down menu.

10. Click the “Bluetooth Modem” tab and select “Nokia iR 6210 _ 8xxx” from the “Modem” drop down menu (if you don’t see it there, go back up to step 1 and 2 and make sure you downloaded the modem script and put it into the modem scripts folder). Check all 4 check boxes below the “Modem” drop down menu, and then click “Apply Now”.

11. Open up “Internet Connect” from the Applications folder and select the Bluetooth tab. If the phone number *99# is not already be entered, enter it.

Important: Make sure that your phone is paired with your computer and is receiving a wireless signal from your service provider before you go to the next step.

12. Click “Connect”. The phone should beep and depending on how you paired the phone, ask if you want to connect to your computer. It should then connect and a “G” should appear in on the phone screen.

13. You should now be connected, but you can’t access the internet quite yet. Open up your browser (Firefox of course) and in the Preferences: General Preferences, Click the “Connection Settings” button.

14. Select “Manual Proxy configuration” and for “HTTP Proxy” enter “216.155.165.50″, and for “Port”, enter “8080″.

15. Click OK and exit the preferences. That’s it. You should now have a working connection. Enjoy.

Still not working? If you have a phone other than the Nokia 6103, go to this site (http://www.taniwha.org.uk/) and try all of the scripts for your model. I had to try at least 10 before I got the right one.
